تطرق هذا البحث لمحنة المعتمد بن عباد كما صورها شعره الذي وصل إلينا ، فقد تناول هذا الشعر المحنة من أول مراحلها، فصور أحداث سقوط مملكة إشبيلية وأسر المعتمد على أيدي المرابطين، وتتبع ترحيله ونفيه إلى المغرب، وسجنه في بلدة أغمات، وأبان عن مظاهر المعاناة التي عاناها المعتمد في سجنه، فأبرز معاناته من الفقر والبؤس والذل والقيد، وكشف عن أن هذه المعاناة عامة له ولأسرته، وأبان شعر المحنة الآثار النفسية والفكرية الناجمة المحنة، وأبرزها: تمنيه الموت، ورثاؤه لنفسه، والإحساس والشعور بالعجز، والتشوق والحنين، والرضا والاستسلام للقدر، وتفتق قريحته بشعر الحكمة.

This research touched on the plight of Al-Mu'tamid ibn Abbad as depicted in his poetry that has reached us. This poetry dealt with the ordeal from its first stages. It depicted the events of the fall of the Kingdom of Seville and the capture of Al-Mu'tamid at the hands of the Almoravids, followed his deportation and exile to Morocco, and his imprisonment in the town of Aghmat, and revealed the manifestations of the suffering that he experienced. Al-Mu'tamid suffered it in his prison, highlighting his suffering of poverty, misery, humiliation, and shackles, and revealing that this suffering was general to him and his family, and the poetry of the ordeal revealed the psychological and intellectual effects resulting from the ordeal, the most prominent of which were: his wish for death, his pity for himself, the feeling and feeling of helplessness, longing and nostalgia, contentment and surrender to fate, And his heart bursts with the poetry of wisdom
